Provide guidance and recommendations for the safe and effective use of medicines in the prison environment
The deliverables for this working group are:
Develop coordinated policies and treatment guidelines
For the safe, effective and efficient use of medicines for people in prisons.
Provide guidance on non-pharmacological pain relief interventions
This should take into account; psychological input, physiotherapy for exercise based programmes and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and be linked to the Mental Health and Substance Use Facet.
Develop five core Quality Outcome Indicators
Measure the quality of patient care and healthcare service delivery as it relates to the provision of medicines. This will be done in partnership with the Data and Information Facet.
Develop a National Joint Prison Formulary
Seek agreement on consistent formulary choices across prison health services, enabling consistency in prescribing by making all first and second line formulary choices the same in each of the 15 prison in line. This work should align with national work on the national community formulary where feasible and desirable. Phase 2 will be dependent on electronic prescribing being available.
Review and share learning from adverse prescribing events within the Scottish Prison Estate
Develop findings for guidance and recommendations then to follow from EAGfM to ADTCs.
